HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL HISPANIC CULTURAL CENTER FOUNDATION
"When the New Mexico Hispanic Culture Foundation was founded in 1983, it was the only public foundation in the nation dedicated to the support of Hispanic arts and humanities. Its purpose was to identify, preserve, enhance, and continue New Mexico's Hispanic legacy. The goal of the Foundation was to foster a renaissance of traditional Hispanic arts, literature, and humanities; to increase understanding of the significance, value, and complexity of the culture; and to stimulate further creativity in contemporary Hispanic arts literature, and humanities."

Now named the "National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation", the Foundation still supports and promotes these important goals today, but its primary function has changed. The Foundation supports the mission to preserve, promote, and advance Hispanic culture, arts, and literary arts programming.
