Honoring Mrs. Virginia and Mr. Edward Lujan
The National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation is hosting our first annual Legends ceremony. This year we will honor founding board member Mr. Edward Lujan and his wife Mrs. Virginia Lujan. The program will feature readings by local poets, musical and dance performances including PANdemonium, and will highlight the various programs at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
Honorary co-chairs of the 2012 Legends are the Honorable Pete Domenici and Mrs. Nancy Domenici and Mayor Richard Berry and Mrs. Maria Berry. The program will also include a special corrido written and performed by Roberto Mondragon and video messages from U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall, .
Mr. and Mrs. Lujan will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this August. Edward Lujan was a founding member of the National Hispanic Cultural Center and Foundation boards, and worked diligently to build a center that would preserve Hispanic culture and art; a dream realized after 30 years of dedicated effort. The existence of a National Hispanic Cultural Center was a personal goal of both Virginia and Edward’s.
In a recent interview with Prime Time, Mr. Lujan discusses his wife's dedication to the center, “It’s time. This event honors her [Virginia Lujan] because she understood the importance of the center as much as I did. She always supported me in everything. I work long hours. I always have. She was there, for all of it, though all of it with me.”
Legends will be held on May 24, 2012 at 6 p.m in the Journal Theater. The day will begin with the 2012 Coca-Cola Golf Fiesta Tournament, and will end with a car raffle for a 2012 Honda Civic.
